Shakeology® and P90X

By Steve Edwards

The whole Beachbody community is buzzing about Shakeology and all the great health benefits it provides. Today, Steve Edwards answers your questions about how to best incorporate it into your P90X regimen.

Can Shakeology replace one of my meals in the P90X nutrition plan?

I’d hope so, given that it’s a meal replacement shake! [laughs] But seriously, Xers do have a different nutritional equation to consider than most people. Generally, meal replacement shakes are designed so that you drink them instead of eating a meal to help you lose weight. Of course, Shakeology fits into this mold just fine. In fact, given how nutrient-dense it is, I’d say it’s better than anything on the market. And even though it contains an entire day’s worth of many nutrients, it’s still only 140 calories.

Aren’t most of the meals in P90X nutrition plan in the 400 to 500 calorie range?

Exactly, and the average Xer won’t be served well to cut out calories. The reason is that as you get fitter your nutritional requirements change, along with your body composition. When you first start to exercise, you can lose weight by just restricting your caloric intake. But as you gain muscle, you need to eat more to continue losing weight, and this is often a lot more than you ate when you first began losing weight—sometimes it’s more than double. If you eat too little during P90X, your weight loss will plateau, along with your ability to do the workouts.

Fruit ShakesThis is why we give you a lot of smoothie recipes and options. Shakeology, like any other meal replacement shake, can be a component of something larger. For meals, we suggest adding more calories from healthy fat sources, like nut butters (almonds, cashews, etc.), along with more standard smoothie-like ingredients such as fruit. This not only brings your calories into line with your diet plan but balances meals so they digest more slowly, as normal meals would.

Can Shakeology replace one of the snacks in the P90X nutrition plan?

Shakeology is a ridiculously nutrient-rich snack, a perfect snack for Xers. Because it doesn’t have much fat, its nutrients are put to use very quickly by your body. This makes it an ideal pick-me-up snack when you’re on the go. It’s better, in fact, than a lot of energy drinks. While something like Red Bull might give you more up-front punch, Shakeology will give you sustained energy because it’s providing nutrients your body needs to get things done.

Shakeology’s macronutrient ratio splits the difference among sports drink, protein shake, and recovery drink, but it can substitute for all of them in any given situation because it also has an excellent micronutrient profile. Most people are focused only on macronutrients (proteins, fats, and carbs), but they’re only part of your nutritional equation. Micronutrients are things like phytonutrients, adaptogens, and other scientific-sounding stuff. While we refer to these as "micro," nutritionally, they are anything but small. Many of them are absolutely essential for a healthy life. Shakeology speeds these micronutrients into your system, which enables you to perform better.

Why don’t we hear more about the importance of micronutrients?

Veggies and FruitNot to dwell too much on conspiracy theories, but "big food," as we call the American food industry, doesn’t want us focusing on micronutrients because they’ve been destroyed in most of the foods we eat. Things like food processing and pasteurization kill most of the micronutrients in food. These processed foods are then sprinkled with what have been lobbied to be "important" ingredients, which in reality only provide enough nutrition for surviving, as opposed to thriving. As you can observe by watching society grow larger, this is leading to all sorts of problems.

In nature, food doesn’t come this way. It has a balance of nutrients that help sustain life. It’s possible for food scientists to recreate this balance in processed foods, but this is expensive. Essentially, if it doesn’t fit the numbers, shareholders want to see it doesn’t happen. So they make cheap food and keep us in the dark about nutrition. This is exactly why we’re in the predicament we’re in today (with obesity), because we can make calorie-rich but nutrient-poor food cheaper than we can produce natural food.

This is why Shakeology is designed the way it is. There is no one food in nature that has all the micronutrients we need to fill the nutritional gaps in our diets—that’s why we need to eat a variety of foods. But most of us don’t do that. So at its core, this is what Shakeology is doing—filling in our nutritional gaps.

I’m doing the Portion Approach in P90X. What block(s) could Shakeology replace?

The portion plan is basically little chunks of macronutrients portioned out to help you easily balance your diet. Shakeology is equal parts carbs and protein, with almost no fat. So Shakeology can replace one block of protein and one block of carbs.

Can Shakeology substitute for Results and Recovery Formula?

Man Drinking Results and Recovery FormulaIt’s not an exact swap, but you could do a lot worse. When you’re training very hard, like those times when your body is shaking during, say, P90X Chest & Back, Results and Recovery Formula is better because your body is bonking—essentially out of glycogen, or blood sugar. Any time you’re in this state, the quicker you can recharge your glycogen, the less damage you’ll do to your muscle cells, and hence, the faster you’ll recover. It’s the one and only time sugar is a preferred nutrient in your diet.

Shakeology doesn’t have nearly as much sugar as Results and Recovery Formula. It only has a little for nutrient transport. But because its other ingredients also support your digestive process, you have rapid assimilation of nutrients. The science from the ’90s showing that a small amount of protein can "piggyback" sugar and be put to use more rapidly, during or after exercise, holds true for Shakeology. It’s not as effective as a Results and Recovery Formula for your hardest workouts, but at any other time, it’s pretty darn good.

How about as a protein shake?

Shakeology has an ample amount of protein. While many protein shakes on the market may have more grams of protein, the type of protein they use often digests so slowly that you can’t drink them when you’re active. Shakeology uses whey protein, which is one of the most (if not the most) bioavailable sources of protein. That means it absorbs quicker into the system than other proteins. Most proteins, especially when you get them in a whole food, take forever to digest. This means that eating protein right before, during, or right after exercise is generally a waste because your body is using energy to digest something that won’t help you for hours, energy that it could be using to enhance your workout or recovery. But when you combine whey protein along with Shakeology’s other nutrients, you have a high-protein shake that can fit into many different nutritional slots in your day, something lacking in a standard protein drink.

Should I still bother taking P90X Peak Health Formula or ActiVit Multivitamins if I’m drinking Shakeology every day?

Apple and VitaminsWe get the vitamin question a lot because Shakeology has so many vitamins in it already. However, using my above example of processed foods, most of us only get a fraction of the nutrients that we should consume on any given day, even when we’re eating more calories than we should. This is exactly why we have vitamin supplements in the first place. Throw exercise into the equation, which accelerates your body’s usage of nutrients, and you can see why we recommend so many times the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for certain vitamins and minerals.

For an average person, Shakeology might eliminate the need for a multivitamin. But if you remember that movie Supersize Me, the average American takes about 600 steps a day—which isn’t even your warm-up for a P90X workout! No one doing a Beachbody program is average. Xers, especially, are advised to take additional vitamin supplements.

It’s also great to take your supplements along with Shakeology because they will digest more easily. One of the limiting factors with supplements is how well your body can assimilate them, so adding them to something that you know is broken down easily by your digestive system is a plus.

Woman with ShakeologyIt’s important to mention two other variables here as well. First, many—if not most—of our customers are trying to lose weight. This requires reducing caloric intake while adding exercise, which increases nutrient requirements. Starting to see an equation where multivitamins and supplements make sense? The body can be a complex organism, but this comes down to simple math. The key to losing weight is not just about reducing calories; it’s about finding a way to reduce your caloric intake and still get enough nutrients to keep you body functioning at its highest level. The key to doing this is to seek out nutrient-dense foods. As I said before, you’d be hard-pressed to find something as nutrient-dense as Shakeology.

Then there’s the RDA, which is the "recommended daily allowance" for everybody. Imagine one nutritional number for every person on the planet, from a 100-pound computer programmer who sits all day to a 350-pound NFL lineman. How absurd is that? Anybody who is doing P90X is no longer an average individual. So chances are the RDA won’t fit the bill if you want your body to perform as well as it can.

When’s the best time to drink Shakeology during a P90X day?

One of the beautiful things about Shakeology is how versatile it is. Because it helps you digest anything you consume along with it, there isn’t really a wrong time to have it. Ideally, its best slot in an Xer’s day is as a pre-workout snack, taken about 1 hour prior to your warm-up. Your impending workout will help you get the most out of Shakeology and it will help you during the latter part of your workout, especially if your glycogen stores are slightly depleted. It can be effective pre-workout, post-workout, or any time during the day when your energy is flagging and you need a pick-me-up. Or you can make smoothies and simply replace your meals. You basically can’t go wrong.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about Shakeology?

Cost of FoodPrice holds a lot of people back, and I can understand that it looks expensive on the surface. We tend to look at foods in a cost-to-calorie ratio, instead of a cost-to-nutrient ratio. Sure, you can buy a Big Gulp and you get 800 calories for a dollar (or something like that). But what good are they? There are no micronutrients. It’s man-made sugar, chemicals, and by-products of genetically modified corn and soy production—no nutrition whatsoever. Whereas if you tried to find all the nutrients in Shakeology, you’d spend forty bucks.

If you’re serious about your health, you should consider what you spend your money on. People drop three to four bucks a day on things that are a detriment to their health without batting an eye. We’re talking the price of a latte or smoothie or any number of things that are much worse than that. The consumer is at war with a lot of corporations that are trying to poison them to make a quick buck. The obesity trend will only stop when we take some responsibility for our health and begin to make better food choices.

The Mental Side Of P90X

By Coach Bevers · Comments (1)

In the order of importance with the P90X program, you have:

1.  Commitment to the diet. As I tell all the people that I coach over and over again, the diet makes up 80% of your results. If you can’t commit to the diet, forget about getting ripped.

2.  Commitment to the workouts. The P90X system requires you to workout 6 days a week, and the workouts aren’t easy either. There is no going around it, you have to complete the workouts to build muscle and burn fat.

3.  Mental toughness. This is what separates the people who get great results from the people who get absoutely stunning results, and is what I’m going to focus on in this post.

Positive Little Things For Success!

Here is a post from my coach that I thought I would pass on to you:

One of the problems with our society is that we focus on what is happening now, instead of what will happen in the future with every action that we take. For example, when just starting a new workout or diet program like P90X, the majority of people will expect to see results right away. This narrow minded thinking causes people to quickly get discouraged, quit the program, and go on with their unhealthy ways. As a coach, I’ve seen it hundreds of times. However, take a second and think about the people that have had great success with P90X, like Tommy Mygrant, Jeffrey Armbruster, Mark Briggs, Robert Hudgens, Barbie Decker, and on and on. Each of these people who have had tremendous success all have one thing in common, they have focused on the bigger picture instead of what was happening now. Read More→

Will Smith’s Mindset Shift

Your belief system is everything.  You truly do create your own reality.  Watch this clip from Will Smith that I think pretty much sums it up:

Basically, in English, what this means is that you want to see, hear, feel, smell, & taste success.  Doing one is just not enough if you really want to melt the rest of your body fat off or grow all the muscle and truly transform, once and for all.  This video goes for anything you want in life as well, not just your fitness goals.

Who The Heck Is This Ryan Bevers Guy?

And How Did He Get To Where He’s At?

My name is Ryan Bevers, and I appreciate you stopping by to learn a little bit more about myself and my family, and to find out how and why I got to where I’m at today.  I’m not sure if you found this site by accident, or if you are actively looking to get in the best shape of your life from home.  Either way, I’m glad you are here…I can help you!

Maybe you are new to this whole working out/nutrition thing, and you are just looking for some advice on where to start.  Or maybe you have already been working out for years, but you haven’t seen the results you have been looking for.  Or maybe you are in pretty good shape, but you are looking for something new to keep your workouts fresh and exciting.

Whatever your situation may be, if you are looking to get into the best shape of your life, I can absolutely help you starting today.  I have several workout programs that I am currently involved with that are not only working for me, but also thousands of other folks around the country.  I will share with you my workout programs, but more about these in a minute.

First, I want to tell you a little about myself and my family….my wife Annette, my son Brayden, my daughter Marisa, and our dog Sydney….oh, and we have some fish too.

Here are some pics of my family:

My wife Annette and I have been married for 7 wonderful years.  We live in the California East Bay, about 30 mins from San Francisco.

My wife is a registered CPA, and is also able to work from home completing jobs for various clients.  We enjoy an incredible sense of security and peace of mind knowing we have created multiple streams of income.  Being an Independent Beachbody Coach is just one of the things I do to earn money from home.

I love the water!  If you can’t get a hold of me on the weekend, there is a good chance I’m out on our boat with our friends and family.  I love wakeboarding, air chairing, and the occasional beating on the tube.

I believe there is no better way to get to know someone than to see pictures of them doing what they love to do.  Here are some pics of my friends and I hanging out on our boat and a couple of me catching a little air on my air chair and wakeboard.

I was extremely lucky as a kid to be able to spend my summers at my Grandfather’s resort at Clear Lake.  My “job” was to take customers water skiing during the day and take them for a sail on the hobie cat later on in the day when the wind picked up.

Looking back on it now, I realize how fortunate I was to be able to have a place like that to live for a couple months every year.  I have so many wonderful memories of the resort with family and friends, and most of them involve a boat or the water.

Luckily, my parents have now moved to a house on the water as well.  My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I decided to buy a boat right after my parents moved into their new pad.  I knew Annette was a keeper since she was just as excited as I was to buy a new boat even before we we’re engaged or bought a house.

Now with our two kids, they will both be able to experience all the great things about going out on the boat that I did as a kid.  I love taking the kids water skiing!  They are always talking about swimming and fishing at my parent’s place.  This summer has been a lot of fun for them.

I moved to Danville, CA. (about 10 mins from where I live now) when I was about 2 years old.  I have two wonderful parents (Terry and Dianne) and an older sister Shawna (she’s the one in my “before” pic with me on my home page).

I was a sports nut growing up.  I played baseball and soccer from about 8 yrs old all the way through high school.  Soccer was my favorite.  A couple buddies of mine and I coached under 12′s when we were in high school for 3 years which was a lot of fun.  I really enjoyed hanging out with those kids and teaching them how to get better.  I can’t wait to coach my kid’s teams here in the next few years.

I’m still a sports nut, and play soccer on Sundays in a coed league.  I’m 36 and running circles around most people in that league thanks to P90X and Insanity!  I’m a loyal supporter of the bay area teams…Warriors (my favorite), A’s, Raiders, and Giants.  I don’t like the 49er’s much, but that is mostly my dad’s fault since I grew up with him being a Rams fan.  So, of course, we had to root against the niners.  Sports Center is my favorite show, but I don’t get to watch it much since we are mostly watching Thomas the Train & Curious George these days.

I went to college at Sonoma State University and graduated with a BS in Business and minored in Marketing…I guess I’m finally putting that marketing part of my diploma to good use.

Soon after graduating, I moved in with some buddies back in Danville and took a job as a bartender while looking for a full time gig.  I worked at a Mom & Pop pizza place all through high school, and once I got back into town after college, they happened to be looking for a Sunday bartender.  I worked every Sunday until June 06…I promised myself that I would quit once Brayden was walking.  I wanted to be hanging out at the park and not behind a bar.

I finally got hired at a software company soon after taking the bartending job.  It worked out pretty good since I had the full time gig Mon-Fri, and I wasn’t usually doing much on Sunday nights anyway since I had to work the next day.  So bartending on Sundays worked perfectly for my schedule.

At the software company, I worked in a call center for almost 10 years.  Man how time flies.  I really liked that job at first…worked about 6 hr days, could wear shorts and t-shirts, company parties all the time, fun co-workers, free sodas, free bagels, etc.

But after a few years, some layoffs began and buddies were getting walked out of the building.  Soon after that, our company got bought out, and we were all told on a Friday that we would receive a UPS letter in the mail the next day telling us if we still had a job or not…what’s up with that??

I saw first hand that job security was long gone.  The old days of people working with one company for 30+ years just isn’t realistic anymore.  People I knew were being walked out after 10+ years of service.  I knew I had to be watching out for me because no one else was going to.  Just because I thought I was a great employee didn’t mean I couldn’t be walked out to my car tomorrow with nothing more than a month or two worth of severance money.

Well I received my letter and still had my job, but I knew this was not what I wanted to be doing the rest of my life.  At this time, I was already several years into looking for other ways to make money from home on my own. Sure I didn’t like my job, but it was paying the bills while I was working on the internet at night in my spare time. The layoffs only fueled my desire to make a full-time living online from home asap.  I wanted to make sure I quit on my own terms before I potentially got kicked to curb with no warning.

I will get into more details about how I earn a living in a minute, but first check out my new ride that I inherited about 4 years ago from my Grandfather:

This is a 1914 Model T.  I finally got her started in April 08.  She had been sitting in my Grandfather’s garage for about 7 years, and about 2 years in mine.  I didn’t know anything about how to drive this thing or how to work on the engine.  It’s not like you can take this down to the local mechanic and get a tune up.

About a year ago, I was washing the T out in front of my house.  As fate would have it, my neighbor Tom (1 court over) saw the T and drove over to introduce himself.  He has a 1921 T which looks pretty much just like this one.  He knows all about these cars!

I was stoked!!  He came over several times and hooked me up helping me get her running again.  He was able to teach me how to drive it.  The throttle is like a turn signal in cars today, and reverse is a separate foot pedal, so driving this is definitely not as simple as you might think.  I took her out for my first cruise with my dad around the beginning of April.

This thing is a blast to drive!  People are honking and waving…it is a real head turner.  There can’t be too many of these left, and especially not in as good of condition as this one.  I am very grateful to be able to keep this in the family.

I like to think of myself as pretty handy and creative when it comes to building stuff.  I didn’t realize I had this talent till we bought our first house.  Finally, all these ideas I’d had in my head for years could become reality.  I seem to specialize in outdoor improvements, but I’ve also dabbled in wood working.

I built this waterfall out of wet concrete and mortor from scratch…those aren’t rocks.  I mixed up the concrete in a wheel barrel, then poured it out on the ground, and molded it with a trowel into the shapes you see.  Once I had the look I wanted, I just coated it with a layer of mortor, and then textured and painted it.  I’d always wanted a waterfall in my back yard, but just never had a backyard, at least one that I owned.

My coolest creation is this kegerator.  It recently won 1st place in a nation wide custom kegerator contest.  I can now honestly say I have the coolest kegerator in the country…ha!  I brew my own beer and needed something to keep the kegs cold (more on this later).  There is nothing like having 5 beers on tap in your kitchen!!  I only drink maybe 1 or 2 beers a week, if that.  If you want to get in killer shape, drinking a bunch of alcohol is really going to hurt your results…moderation is key.  Here are some more pics of it….keg drawer, inside, pint glass display.

A close second, as far as coolness goes, is my son’s train bed.  Man that was a pain in my rear end, but now Brayden has an awesome bed that he absolutely loves!  I was sending out a weekly update on the status of this bed to some friends.   They found the “gorilla glue” incident pretty funny.  That stuff is the real deal…that warning on the back about wearing gloves is legit.  You have been warned…:)

All of these projects above are very similar to getting in killer shape.  What I mean by that is that with all of these projects, I had 3 things….an idea, a plan, and the right tools.  Once you have these 3 things, then you have to take action.

If I tried to build that kegerator with a screwdriver and an axe, do you think it would have looked nearly as good as it does now?  And on the flip side, if you are trying to build some lean muscle and drop some fat, but you don’t have a plan or the tools, do you think you have a good chance of being successful?

I know you already have the idea since you are reading this website.  I’ve found some awesome workout programs and nutrition guides that are working great for me (the plan), and I’ve figured out what tools/resources have helped me get to where I want to be.  I have done all the hard work for you already…now I’m willing to give back and tell you exactly what I’m doing…step-by-step…to get you in the best shape of your life just like I have.

It is such a cool feeling for me to take an idea in my head and turn it into something real.  I’m a huge believer in the quote below…

“If you can see it in your head, you can hold it in your hand”

This quote isn’t just about building something, but it holds true for anything you want…a new house, a better job, more income, better body, etc.  It can be whatever you want.  If you think about something, and decide there is nothing that can stop you from obtaining it, there is nothing you can’t accomplish.  Right now, if you decide you want to get in the best shape of your life, and commit to making it happen, you will succeed.

I’ve tried lots of various methods to grow muscle for the last 20+ years, but nothing produced any huge results.  I’ve tried the weight gainers (yuck!), many hyped up and terribly expensive supplements that don’t work, fat burners, dozens of protein powders, light weight with high rep counts vs heavy weight with low reps, cardio on an empty vs full stomach, working out till failure, only working out each body part once per week, working out each body part twice per week, eating boiled chicken breast (nasty!)….I could go on and on.

I was 6′ 1″ as a freshman in high school.  So I was tall for my age, but I was super skinny.  With all of the sports I was playing and all the exercise I was getting, I just never seemed to gain weight.  I have been trying to bulk up at the gym for the last 20+ years with hardly any results.  I was one of those dudes who you’ve seen at the gym for years, but they look exactly the same as they did years ago…can you relate??

I finally figured out that what I was doing week after week, month after month, year after year at the gym was obviously not working.  Why did I continue to do the same thing for years and wonder why I wasn’t gaining any muscle?  It seems obvious, but most folks are in this same boat…going to the gym for years, doing the same routine, and little to no results to show for it.  If you try something and it doesn’t work for you, if you do it again, do you really think your results will be any different?

Getting in fantastic shape is not easy, and trying to go about it without following a proven system that works is pretty much impossible.  This is exactly why I am so excited and grateful that I discovered Beachbody!  There is no need to struggle to get in fantastic shape anymore.  Beachbody has created several great programs to choose from, and as long as you commit to the program and follow the nutrition guides, you are going to see results.

I just want to point out that I’ve put in a lot of hard work and sweat into P90X and Insanity, so I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that these programs work.  And they can work for you, as well, if you just follow the program, and I will be there to support you every step of the way.

Let me explain a little about my online history and how I got to this website you are reading right now.

My first website was more of a one stop shop type of website.  I had everything under the sun…camping equipment, furniture, bicycles, electronics, tools, cameras, etc.  My thinking back in the day was the more stuff I have, the better chance of having an item that one of my visitors would be interested in purchasing.

I quickly learned that this strategy will soon lead you down the path of failure.  It is much better to focus in on one area, and then advertise to people interested in that one type of product.  If you try to sell everything to everyone, you will be setting yourself up to sell nothing to no one.

I made a few sales here and there, but I learned another valuable lesson with this site.  You should be passionate about whatever you are selling online.  If you don’t really know your product and don’t truly believe or use what you are selling, it will easily come across on your website.

I didn’t know much about all the dozens of bikes on my site.  I hardly ever went camping, but I had lots of tents for sale.  I didn’t know much about any of the products on my site.  But I had a good supplier who would dropship all of these products for me.  I would just send him the orders.  It was easy, and it worked for a little while.

I quickly lost interest in this site though, and wanted to come up with something else that I really enjoyed.  I knew I liked making beer, and at the time, I had just finished making my first kegerator (this was what it looked like before I built the nice cabinet around it).  I was getting such a good response from people seeing this for the first time that I decided to build a site about kegerators.

Around 10 years ago, I built http://www.thebeermall.com.  I still run this site today.  This site is geared towards college students, and anyone else who likes beer.  This site is going after a specific target market, and specializes in beer related products.  By focusing your site around something specific, and truly believing in your product, you will have a much better chance of succeeding online.

I make a consistent amount of money from this site month after month.  I rank pretty high (top ten) on most of my important keywords, and I am receiving orders, almost daily, strictly from natural search engine traffic.  I haven’t spent a dime on advertising for this site in over three years.

My biggest problem with thebeermall.com is that none of my products are disposable.  If someone buys a beer disguise or a tap handle from me, they probably aren’t going to need another one.  So I am constantly needing to find new customers in order to continue to make more sales.

It was around the beginning of 2006 that I started getting involved with passive income programs.  With passive income programs, you basically do something once, and it continues to pay you month after month.  I wanted something that I could work hard at initially to get it started, but then sit back and earn residual income month after month from work I had already done without additional work on my part.

How many of you would get paid from your current job if you decided to not show up for a couple months?  You definitely wouldn’t be getting paid, and you would probably get fired right?  Residual/passive income comes to you month after month, many times, without you doing anything.

I opened up easypassiveinvesting.com around March 2007, and started teaching and helping others how to get involved with passive income programs.  This site looked ok, but it definitely wasn’t what I had visualized it to be in my head.

Another lesson I have learned is that whatever you set out to do will probably never be perfect the first go around.  I knew my site wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned, but I built something that was out there working for me that I could always improve upon and make better over time.

I think a lot of people plan or research themselves right out of an opportunity.  They research the hosting, and the autoresponders, and the website builders, and the domain pricing, or a biz opp, etc.  Researching is ok, but many people research or plan so much that they never actually do anything.  This happens a lot with fitness programs as well.  Definitely do your research, but don’t do so much that you never actually get started.

So my point is that it is ok to get something started that isn’t as perfect as you may have hoped.  What is important is that you took action and created something that you can continue to improve upon.    Just like with getting in shape, you need to just do something and get started ASAP.  You can always improve upon your workouts and your diet, but you need to take that first step in getting started.  As our buddies at Nike would say…”Just Do It.”

I was able to quit my corporate gig back in Aug 08, and I’ve been working from home running my couple websites.  I almost quit my corporate job several years earlier to become a personal trainer.  I had the job all lined up, but I would have had to take a 50% pay cut.  I really wanted to do it, but losing 50% of my pay check was just not an option.  So I’ve had a dream of being a personal trainer for years, but just never pulled the trigger…until now.

Now that I’m able to work from home from the income generated from my other websites, it was an easy choice for me to become an Independent Beachbody Coach and start telling folks about Beachbody.  I saw what P90X and Insanity has (and continues) to do for me, and through the coaching program, I could get back to realizing my old dream of becoming a personal trainer.  But now I could do it from the comfort of my home and not have to go to a gym everyday to help folks out in person.

I love helping people finally start creating their dream physiques!  I get so angry and irritated with all the scams and bogus programs and supplements out there.  I know, I’ve lost money with more of those than I care to remember.

I didn’t have a mentor or someone to talk to and give me advice regarding what to do and teach me what was proven to work.  I am willing to share with you everything I know to help you get started in the right direction.

If you’ve failed in the past, you are not alone.  It took me over 20 years of failing to discover Beachbody and some fantastic workout programs like P90X and Insanity.  Failing just means you are trying, but quitting means you have given up.  I always told myself, if you aren’t failing, then you aren’t trying.  And if you aren’t trying, then tomorrow is going to be the same as today.

It’s ok to fail.  I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve failed trying to grow muscle and get below 10% body fat.  But the key is that I didn’t let that stop me.  I made a decision a long time ago that I did not want to be the “skinny guy” the rest of my life.  I was not happy with my appearance, and I know tons of other people are not happy with their appearance also.

“The only thing holding you back right now is your
awareness of what you are capable of.”

Read that sentence again, and let it sink in.  If you want a better job, or you want to make more money, or you want to spend more time with your family, or you want to get ripped, you absolutely can do that.  But you can’t just think about it or dream about it.  You have to make a decision, and then, most importantly, you have to act on that decision.

People who know me will say I am an extremely easy going, down to earth type of guy.  I will tell you like it is, get to the point, and give people tons of beneficial information.  I’ll share with you what I know works.

My personal goal and business mission is to help others to finally start creating that lean, sexy body they’ve only dreamed about.

I’m excited to get out of bed in the morning and enjoy working late into the night, simply out of love for what I’m doing, and that is helping others in any way that I can.  If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Over many years of marketing online, through websites and emails, I’ve found that it’s pretty hard to know who is trying to make a quick buck from you and who is truly trying to help you when it comes to getting in shape.

There are tons of scams and sites online that will take your money and rip you off.  It’s happened to me many times over, but I kept at it.  I knew every failure was getting me one step closer to something that worked.  I’ve gained a lot of valuable information over the years.  It’s been pretty costly for me, but now I want to give back and try to keep you from making the same mistakes I’ve made.

I know I tend to do business with people I like and trust and find credible.   I bet you do the same.  I want to be able to connect and identify with you in some small way, and build a relationship with you.  I’m not here to make a quick profit from you and then never talk to you again.  I want you to be someone I can work with for years to come.

I want to get you pointed in the right direction so that you can finally realize that it IS possible for you to get in fantastic shape and be proud to take off your shirt at the next bbq at the pool.

I’m not advertising some affiliate page that thousands of other people are also advertising.  This is the only website you will ever see with this information because it is about me.

I never deal with rejection.  If someone checks out my site and doesn’t like what they see, they will leave and I won’t even know about it.  That is how I designed it.  The website sorts out my prospects for me.  I only speak to people who want to speak with me first.

This is a very personal name-branding website.  I built it so that you can get to know me and begin to build trust with me automatically.

I found out long ago that you can’t better yourself if you don’t challenge yourself.

Some of the programs on my site you may never have heard of or don’t understand how they work…and that is perfectly ok.  I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and keep an open mind.  Try thinking out of the box and try some new things.

“To get what you’ve never had, you must do what you’ve never done.”

Let me be your mentor.  Doesn’t it make sense to find someone who is successful and doing what you want to be doing, and then just copy what they are doing?  A mentor can make the difference between success and failure.  I would have saved thousands of dollars and a lot of sweat and tears over the last 10 years if I wasn’t trying to go about getting in shape by myself all those years.

Let me share with you what I know.  I would love the opportunity to work with you one-on-one and help you to finally begin creating that killer body you have always wanted.

If you want to start growing some lean muscle and dropping pounds of fat with the the help of cutting edge programs from Beachbody, then I want to be the first to congratulate you on your decision.  That is truly the first step.  You can see a list of all the workouts by clicking HERE.

Thank you for taking the time to read this far and learn a little bit more about myself and my family.  Whether we end up working together or not, I truly hope you are successful in whatever you choose to pursue.

How To Commit To The P90X Diet

By Coach Bevers · Comments (0)

As I have talked about before, the most important part of the P90X program is the Nutrition Guide. I tell all the people that I coach that results come from 80% diet and 20% workouts, and that’s not an exaggeration either! If you want results, you must commit to the diet! For most people, sticking with a clean diet is the toughest part of the program because their old habits automatically try to creep back into their new, healthy lifestyle. You might find yourself thinking, “One piece of cake isn’t going to hurt, is it?” One piece of cake leads to two, and then you start slacking more and more on your diet as each week passes. Once that happens, your results slow or stop, you get discouraged, and then you end up quitting the program because you lost motivation…this is obviously what we do not want to happen. I’ve seen it happen WAY too many times before! So what are some things that you can do to commit to the P90X diet?

Is Splenda Healthy?

By Coach Bevers · Comments (0)

Is Splenda healthy to use as a sugar substitute? This is something that I have been curious about for quite a while now. Because I have been eating healthy for over a year and a half, I have been staying away from sugar and using Splenda instead. I occasionally hear on the news that artificial sweeteners are linked to weight gain, but I find that hard to believe because they have no calories, so I did a little research to get to the bottom of this.

What exactly is Splenda? For those who believe Splenda is “natural,” I hate to tell you that it is actually chemically altered. It starts out as natural sugar, but the three hydroxyl groups are removed and substituted with three atoms of chlorine. The chlorine atoms make it hard to absorb, which is the reason why there are barely any calories. The problem lies during digestion, when the molecule is transformed into chlorocarbon, which is known to be toxic to the human body. (This information found HERE)

Why You Shouldn’t Drink Pop (Soda)!

By Coach Bevers · Comments (0)

I think everyone knows by now that soda/pop is not good for you.  But the fact is that the majority of you still drink it!  In order to get the maximum results from your fitness program, you need to stop drinking pop, and in this post, I am going to explain why.

Here are some interesting Nutrition Facts regarding Pepsi. Per 8 ounces (regular glass), it has 100 calories and 28g of carbohydrates, which comes from 28g of sugar!  Sugar is a simple carb, which means that it is digested into the body very quickly. This is why simple carbs have barely any thermic effect, or how many calories the body burns while digesting food.

Drinking Water And Exercising

By Coach Bevers · Comments (0)

All of you know that drinking enough water throughout the day is very important, especially if you engage in intense exercising! But many of you don’t know the reasons why staying hydrated is so important, and that’s why I have decided on today’s topic!

Everyone sweats during their workouts (well I hope you do at least!), but why do we sweat? Sweating is the body’s natural way to cool itself down to maintain the wonderful temperature of 98.6 degrees! As we exercise, our heart rate increases, therefore increasing the body temperature, and then the sweat comes along to attempt to cool us off! The body is made up of 2/3 water, and we lose much of this during the day sweating. In fact, we lose an average of 1 quart of water during exercise! We even sweat during cold weather when we aren’t even doing a strenuous activity! The body constantly perspires!

Best And Worst Drinks

By Coach Bevers · Comments (0)

If you want a drink, you want a drink, and all the bad press you read isn’t likely to quench your thirst. So the Nutrition 911 on alcohol will be to skip the boring science and discuss what to do when you’re going to drink. Besides, studies keep telling us that a bit of alcohol in your diet enhances your health and lengthens your life span. All you may know now is that the last time you hit the bar, you woke up feeling like someone was using a rototiller on your brain, leaving you to wonder, "How can this have been good for me?"
